ACC Director Checks on Wadi Araba's New Agricultural Projects

Aqaba, Oct. 14 (Petra) -- Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) Director General Mohammad Dojan toured several corporation-financed projects in Wadi Araba on Wednesday to check on their conditions and the main challenges facing their activities.

Dojan said the projects are "promising" models of agricultural investment, which align with the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture by enhancing food security, diversifying production, encouraging quality investments, expanding green areas and curbing desertification in desert regions.

He stressed the corporation's focus on following up on financed projects in the field and strengthening direct contact with farmers and agricultural investors.

The tour, he said, aims to learn these enterprises' needs and remove obstacles, within the corporation's capacities and governing legislation.

The corporation continues to play its developmental role by financing "economically viable" agricultural projects, Dojan highlighted.

As for its future vision, he said the ACC encourages farmers and investors to integrate modern agricultural technologies and expand value-added production projects, which supports the sector's sustainability and development across the kingdom.

During the tour, Dojan reviewed progress at the agricultural projects and met farmers and project owners. He listened to their experiences, their current challenges and needs for expanding production and improving efficiency.

He visited the project of Khairat Wadi Araba First Company for Agricultural Investments, which combines fish farming with the cultivation of fruit and tropical trees and fodder crops.

Dojan reviewed the project's components and implementation stages, including the breeding and production of tilapia, carp and ornamental fish, as well as shrimp farming. Project officials said the shrimp are being produced for the first time in Jordan.

He also inspected the project's existing plantings, including date palms, papaya, guava, grapes, lemon and fig trees, along with fodder crops, chiefly Panicum grass.

The project has allocated areas for these crops as part of its drive to diversify production sources and boost economic returns.
