Amman Road Closures Set for Friday as Marathon Takes Over Capital Streets

Amman, Sept. 27 (Petra) -- Major roads across Amman will close in stages on Friday for the 2026 Bromine Amman Marathon, with some traffic restrictions taking effect from midnight and remaining in place until noon, the Jordanian Marathon Association (Run Jordan) announced Sunday.

The traffic plan covers routes for the 42.195-kilometer marathon, including individual and relay events, the 21-kilometer half marathon and the 10-kilometer race. Run Jordan said the closures were coordinated with the relevant authorities to protect runners and manage traffic as participants move through the capital.

For the full marathon and half marathon, closures will begin at midnight on the route extending from the new Raghadan Complex through Al-Jaish Street in both directions, the Hashemite Plaza, Quraysh Street and Ali Bin Abi Talib Street to the Muhajireen traffic lights.

Omar Matar Street, King Talal Street and Al-Hashemi Street will also be included in the closures, which will remain in effect until noon.

The 42.195-kilometer marathon, in both its individual and relay categories, and the 21-kilometer half marathon are scheduled to start at 6 a.m.

A second set of closures will take effect at 6 a.m. for the 10-kilometer race and continue until noon.

Queen Alia Street will be fully closed between Sports City Circle and Interior Ministry Circle, while Queen Noor Street will be closed between Interior Ministry Circle and Fourth Circle.

Uqbah Bin Nafi Street and Princess Basma Street will also be fully closed along the race route leading toward the Hashemite Plaza. The 10-kilometer event is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Run Jordan urged motorists to plan ahead for Friday morning, use alternative routes and follow instructions from traffic officers and other authorities at locations where diversions will be in place.

The closures are part of traffic and safety arrangements for the 2026 Bromine Amman Marathon, which will be held under the slogan "Run in the Heart of Amman" and bring together runners competing across the event's various race categories.
