Amman, Oct. 15 (Petra) -- Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA), Rafiq Khirfan, met on Thursday with Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan, Olaf Becker, to discuss strengthening cooperation and tracking projects aimed at improving services provided to Palestine refugees.
Both sides highlighted UNRWA’s achievement in winning the 2026 UN Supply Chain Award in the "Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain" category for its power generation station project at the Na'our College. They praised the support provided by the Jordanian government, represented by the DPA, in facilitating the implementation and success of the project.
The meeting covered the importance of conducting joint field visits to refugee camps to assess conditions on the ground, hear residents' needs, and set priority areas requiring follow-up and coordination.
The two officials commended the support provided by the Ministry of Environment to the Baqa'a camp and the efforts made to improve environmental conditions there. They also reviewed future projects planned by UNRWA across camps and implementation mechanisms aimed at raising service standards.
Discussions also addressed sanitation challenges in the camps, waste management operations, and ways to enhance coordination with relevant entities to improve environmental and health services.
