Amman, Oct. 7 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Environment on Wednesday launched technical support operations to update Phase II of the National Green Growth Action Plans across six priority sectors: energy, transport, agriculture, water, tourism, and waste management.
Supported by the European Union Delegation to Jordan, the initiative builds upon the outcomes of the 2021–2026 National Green Growth Action Plans and aligns with the strategic priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision.
In coordination with relevant line ministries and stakeholders, specialized national experts have been selected for all six sectors to review previous accomplishments and formulate updated, actionable plans to bolster cross-sectoral integration and national priorities.
Minister of Environment and Chairman of the Green Growth Steering Committee Ayman Sulaiman emphasized during the opening session that Jordan is advancing green growth as a national strategic choice for sustainable development.
"Updating these plans represents an essential step to transition from overarching green growth policy frameworks into practical, implementable projects and programs that account for the specific needs of each sector," Sulaiman said.
He noted that the updated plans must deliver practical solutions to optimize resource efficiency, safeguard natural capital, drive green investment and innovation, generate green jobs, and mitigate the impacts of climate change in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Sulaiman added that the update process will incorporate the priorities outlined in the second executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision (2026–2029) and involve consultation with the private sector, the Central Bank of Jordan, and relevant institutions to align plans with investment and financing goals.
Omar Abu Eid, Energy and Environment Program Manager at the EU Delegation to Jordan, affirmed the strength of the EU-Jordan strategic partnership and praised the ministry's leadership in the green transition.
Abu Eid stated that the technical support provided under the EU Green Economy Program aligns with EU priorities regarding climate action, green transition, and Mediterranean sustainability. He highlighted that EU support focuses on strengthening the nexus between energy, water, food, and the environment, promoting nature-based solutions, and leveraging private sector partnerships to attract European investment for priority economic projects.
