Amman, March 31 (Petra) -- Jordan Free Zones Investors Commission (JFZIC) discussed with a South Korean Embassy delegation in Amman, the latest developments in vehicle conformity regulations and procedures and challenges facing imports of used vehicles from South Korea to the Zarqa Free Zone and the local market.

The meeting, attended by representatives of the embassy's Commercial Attaché Office (KOTRA Amman), reviewed developments related to the file and measures taken in coordination with the relevant authorities in Jordan and South Korea.

Talking at the meeting, JFZIC Vice President Eng. Amer Jayousi said the discussions came at an important time amid challenges facing the vehicle import sector.

He said discussions focused in detail on steps taken by the embassy, KOTRA Amman, and the JFZIC, including consultations with the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply on the possible recognition of Korean certificates of conformity for imported vehicles.

Jayousi, in turn, said the Korean side presented results of technical work comparing the specifications of Korean vehicles with criteria of vehicles imported from the United States and Europe, which could support their recognition under Jordan's regulatory framework.

He added that the discussions also covered key obstacles affecting the smooth flow of imports, notably "high" maritime shipping costs, supply chain disruptions, and visa-related challenges facing traders seeking to travel to South Korea, all of which have increased operating costs.
