Irbid, April 18 (Petra) -- The Greater Irbid Municipality stated on Saturday that a limited partial collapse on Islamabad Street was caused by a leak in an aging sewage main, adding that it is coordinating closely with the Yarmouk Water Company to address the issue.
Ghaith Al-Tall, the municipality’s spokesperson, said technical teams are monitoring maintenance efforts with relevant authorities. The Yarmouk Water Company has instructed a contractor to carry out immediate repairs on the damaged section to ensure public safety and restore the normal flow of traffic.
Al-Tall noted that the municipality's primary role is to oversee the site's rehabilitation and accelerate the repair process. He highlighted that the street suffers from a deteriorating sewage network, a recurring issue that the municipality has previously warned about following similar road subsidence incidents in the area.
According to Al-Tall, the Yarmouk Water Company has committed to tendering a project to completely replace the pipeline in the near future to provide a permanent solution. In the meantime, the municipality has implemented public safety measures and cordoned off the affected area until repairs begin.
