Jordanian Lawmakers Address Family Policy, Cooperation at Moscow Assembly

Amman, Sept. 21 (Petra) – Jordanian MPs highlighted family policy, international cooperation, and the Palestinian issue at the World Peoples Assembly in Moscow.

Assistant Speaker of the Lower House MP Maisoun Qawabea said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, has placed the family at the center of the national modernization process, linking social cohesion with the empowerment of women and youth, child protection, and equal opportunities.

At a session, titled "Family – The Foundation for Preserving Humanity," Qawabea said the family is a cornerstone of social stability and the first setting in which individuals learn belonging, responsibility, compassion, and respect for others.

She noted that economic and demographic changes, shifting work patterns, rising living costs, and the expansion of the digital sphere are creating new challenges for families, while war, displacement, and poverty add further pressures. Women and children, she added, are particularly affected by crises, especially in the region and in Palestine.

Qawabea stressed that protecting families requires an environment that enables women and men to build stable households, balance work and family responsibilities, and ensure children have access to education, healthcare, and psychological and social protection.

She proposed the conference adopt an international framework for family and development policies, including the exchange of legislation and best practices on child protection, parental care, women’s economic empowerment, work-family balance, and the protection of families during wars and displacement.

MP Mohammad Sabayleh told a session titled "Together into the Future: New Horizons of Cooperation" that Jordan views partnerships as an important element in building greater stability.

He explained that Jordan’s national modernization programs, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, are based on cooperation among state institutions, the private sector, and society, as well as institutional and service development and job creation.

Sabayleh observed that current global challenges, ranging from economic and climate pressures to technological change and food and water security, require cooperation across borders and partnerships involving governments, young people, businesses, universities, and civil society.

He maintained that regional cooperation also requires addressing the root causes of conflict, stressing that lasting stability in the Middle East is unattainable while Palestinians continue to suffer. He reiterated Jordan’s position that a lasting peace requires a just resolution of the Palestinian issue and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian territory.

Sabayleh said wars consumed regional resources and affected generations, adding that greater resources should instead be directed toward education, healthcare, energy, water, innovation, and infrastructure.

He also called for partnerships to expand the exchange of knowledge, create investment opportunities, involve young people in decision-making, and use culture to strengthen ties among societies.
