Senate's Palestine Committee slams Israeli escalations in West Bank

Amman, July 28 (Petra) - The Senate's Palestine Committee condemned on Tuesday the violent escalations by extremist Israeli settlers and occupation forces in the occupied West Bank.

In their statement, the committee denounced recent settler attacks carried out under military protection, killing several Palestinians in the town of Tell, west of Nablus. Isreali settlers also burned two mosques in Qusra and Kur, and targeted homes and private property across multiple Palestinian villages.

The committee described these actions as "a systematic campaign to forcibly displace Palestinians and erase their national identity." "State-backed settler violence is no coincidence," said the committee, arguing that military-protected attacks signal an official government strategy to drive indigenous Palestinians out of the occupied West Bank.

The committee warned that aggression on worship places, attacks on peaceful villages, expansion of illegal settlements, and continued strikes on Gaza, alongside ongoing violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque, threaten regional stability and undermine prospects for peace.

Reiterating Jordan’s "unwavering" stance under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, the committee stated the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites remains the "primary guarantee" for preserving the city's historical and legal status quo.

It also commended the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs for its ongoing work in documenting and exposing Israeli violations to the global community.

The committee urged the UN Security Council and the international community to hold Israel accountable, enforce effective deterrents, stop forced displacements, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.

Based on the two-state solution, the statement reiterated Jordan’s "firm" support for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
