Jordan, Libya Army Chiefs Talk Military Cooperation

Amman, July 5 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti and Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Khaled Khalifa Haftar discussed military cooperation.

During a meeting held on Sunday at the General Headquarters of Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), talks reviewed ways to expand and strengthen military cooperation across various fields in support of shared interests and in response to current security challenges.

The two sides also discussed "broadening" cooperation in training, professional qualification, expertise exchange and capacity building to enhance "efficiency, readiness and operational" capabilities of the two countries' armed forces.

Huneiti underscored the "deep" ties between Jordan and Libya, reaffirming the JAF's commitment to strengthening military cooperation and coordination in support of regional security, stability and issues of mutual interest.

For his part, Haftar commended the JAF's "advanced" capabilities and their expertise in military training and qualification, calling for continuing cooperation and exchanging expertise to further strengthen relations and serve the common interests of the two countries.

A number of senior JAF officers and the Libyan military attaché in Amman attended the meeting.
