Momani highlights Jordanian youth role in countering online misinformation

Amman, Oct. 15 (Petra) - Government Communications Minister Mohammad Momani noted on Thursday the Jordan's young talent, innovative ideas and projects that deserve support.

During a meeting with Pulse of Change Association for Youth Empowerment, Momani said the council's initiatives and programs contribute to national efforts aimed to boost Jordan's resilience against digital disinformation.

Momani, who is also the government's official spokesperson, called for raising youth's awareness of ways to assess digital content and verify information to curb the spread of misinformation, encourage responsible social media use and bolster their role in protecting public awareness from misleading narratives.

Momani also stated the need to integrate community-based initiatives, training programs and digital tools to expand youth engagement and increase its impact.

He said social media and digital technologies offer "effective" ways to reach youth, promote training opportunities and improve access to programs in artificial intelligence (AI), technology and digital communications.

He added that the youths' presence online gives them opportunities to defend Jordan's interests, national principles and values.

Youth initiatives, he said, also help develop personal, communication and leadership skills and prepare young people to navigate life's challenges.

As for its current efforts, Momani noted the Ministry of Government Communications works across all governorates to explain government policy clearly, focusing on the purpose, reasoning, and practical impact of every decision.

In turn, Pulse of Change Association for Youth Empowerment President Mashhour Qutaishat, for his part, said the Youth Council for Future Dialogues, established as a youth and political engagement platform, seeks to develop initiatives based on young people's ideas and priorities and encourage their participation in public life.

The council promotes Jordan's national narrative and progress through knowledge and civic engagement, addressing key local and regional issues head-on.

Qutaishat added that Jordanian youth have the talent and potential to contribute to the Kingdom's development and achievements, stressing the importance of supporting initiatives that build their skills and enable them to participate actively in national affairs under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Council team called for achieving "closer" cooperation with the Ministry to equip youth with media, tech, and political skills, fostering national pride and encouraging greater public participation.

These members referred to their plans to expand training in AI, cybersecurity and digital content creation.

They called for launching better youth initiatives, focused on digital literacy and countering disinformation, helping young Jordanians turn creative ideas into real-world projects.
