Amman, Oct. 29 (Petra) His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal stressed on Thursday the importance of adopting a comprehensive human-centered vision to bolster peace and stability across the Mediterranean region, anchored in human dignity, rights, justice, and inter-peoples cooperation.
Prince El Hassan made the remarks while delivering the keynote address, titled "The Mediterranean: A Sea for Peace," at the second edition of the Euro-MENA Dialogue. The conference was organized in Amman by the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) in collaboration with the Euro-MENA Initiative for Democracy and Development (EMI), featuring diplomats, experts, and civil society leaders.
Prince El Hassan noted that Europe and the MENA region face rapid political, economic, and demographic shifts requiring a robust partnership based on shared responsibility. He emphasized placing human dignity at the core of regional and international policymaking while empowering youth to shape their communities' futures.
Recalling his 1981 initiative presented to the United Nations General Assembly regarding a new international humanitarian order, His Royal Highness affirmed that global success is measured not only by crisis response but also by the capacity to prevent conflicts and address their root causes. In this context, he called for establishing an ethical framework to cultivate a culture of peace and safeguard civilians, refugees, and natural resources.
Addressing forced displacement, Prince El Hassan cautioned against leaving host countries to bear the burden of humanitarian crises alone. He urged sustained international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and called for creating conditions conducive to the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
His Royal Highness further urged the formulation of an Arab-led regional architecture grounded in economic integration, mutual security, and a just resolution to the Palestinian cause. He called on Europe to support an international law-based peace process rather than acquiescing to power dynamics and prolonged conflict, urging the transformation of the Mediterranean into a shared space for peace, stability, and human dignity.
