Amman, Aug. 20 (Petra) -- The Jordan Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity (JSSREC) will hold its 12th Economic Conference this Saturday under the theme "The Digital Economy and Governance in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." Held in cooperation with the University of Petra, the conference will examine ways to advance Jordan’s transition toward a digital economy and discuss frameworks for data governance and digital sovereignty. It will also explore the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, the education system and human capital, with the aim of developing practical recommendations that could support decision-makers.
Conference Chairman and President of the Society Reda Khawaldeh said the conference is being held at a time of rapid global developments in digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications. He said it provides a national platform to discuss the future of the Jordanian economy in light of these developments.
Khawaldeh said the visions and recommendations emerging from the conference could provide input for decision-makers in developing future economic and legislative policies. He stressed that the shift toward a digital economy is no longer an option but a national necessity, while artificial intelligence has become a major driver of growth and competitiveness in modern economies.
He called for greater coordination between the public and private sectors and academic institutions to develop flexible legislation capable of keeping pace with rapid technological developments. He also highlighted the importance of investing in young Jordanian talent and equipping it with future skills to strengthen Jordan’s position as a regional center for digital services and innovation.
Chairman of the Conference Preparatory Committee Samer Rjoub said the conference brings together decision-makers, policymakers, experts, academics and leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss key economic issues related to digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
He said the conference sessions will address the technical aspects of digital transformation, including digital infrastructure, cloud computing, data governance and cybersecurity, as well as applications of generative artificial intelligence and big data analytics and their role in improving the efficiency of productive and service sectors.
Rjoub added that the discussions will also examine requirements for interoperability among government digital platforms, as well as international standards for data classification and localization, contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy.
