Amman, Aug 22 (Petra) – About 2.2 million students across Jordan will head to classrooms on Sunday for the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development completed preparations to welcome students and ensure the readiness of schools and educational and administrative staff throughout the Kingdom, said ministry Secretary-General Sahar Shakhatreh.

She said efforts are focused on providing a suitable learning environment and ensuring a smooth educational process from day one of the new academic year.

According to educational statistics for the 2025/2026 academic year, the Kingdom's education system comprises 7,818 schools, including private schools, UNRWA schools, and military schools, with about 2,263,438 students and 146,910 teachers, said Shakhatreh.

These figures reflect the breadth of the education system and diversity of the Kingdom's educational institutions, highlighting the significant responsibility placed on the ministry and various educational institutions to provide quality education for the Kingdom's children, she pointed out.

The ministry, she said, continues to develop the educational process and improve the school environment, in line with the directives to develop the education sector and human resources, and enhance the quality of services to students and teachers.

She stressed the importance of partnership and integration between the ministry, the education directorates, schools, and parents for the success of the new academic year.

The new school year comes amid a new administrative structure of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, based on a clear distribution of roles and strengthened specialization in managing educational affairs, schools, planning, and institutional support to raise performance efficiency and improve educational services.
