Zarqa, Oct. 9 (Petra) – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, on Thursday inaugurated the Second International Medical Conference of the Faculty of Medicine at the Hashemite University (HU).
Held in cooperation with Prince Hamzah Hospital, the conference was themed: "Transforming Healthcare and Medical Education: Integrating Personalized Medicine and Artificial Intelligence." A select group of academics, physicians, researchers, and decision-makers from the public and private sectors, from within and outside Jordan, participated in the conference, alongside the distinguished engagement of the HU's Faculty of Medicine students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, HU President Khaled Hiyari delivered a speech emphasizing the university's commitment to raising the quality of education and training in health colleges to more distinguished and innovative levels.
Hiyari noted the university seeks to build an "integrated" medical education system based on practical clinical education, use of virtual reality and simulation technologies, and application of artificial intelligence tools to ensure a "smooth and distinguished" transition for students to clinical training in hospitals and health centers "efficiently and competently." The event, he stated, affirms the university's "pioneering" role in developing medical education in Jordan and providing an "advanced" training environment that effectively integrates health and academic institutions.
Hiyari added that the university has integrated artificial intelligence and health informatics courses into various health college programs to create an advanced training environment.
He also noted the university adopts an integrated, joint education approach that brings together health college students from their early years to form work teams capable of effective professional collaboration.
Highlighting the "distinguished" achievements of the university's health colleges, he said College of Medicine has received international accreditations, while the College of Nursing obtained international ACEN accreditation, and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Applied Medical Sciences continue to pursue international accreditation.
He also stressed that the university links education with social responsibility and development efforts to serve the community through awareness, prevention, treatment, and training.
Dean of the College of Medicine and conference chair, Mohammed Qudah, said the conference is part of the university's long-term plan to modernize medical education and training and introduce the latest technologies into educational programs to keep pace with the concepts and practices of future medicine.
Qudah emphasized that the College of Medicine is witnessing continuous updates in plans and programs, enhancing skills, methods, and techniques, and following future visions for medical education amid rapid technological developments.
He added: "We have made significant progress in joint education and interdisciplinary medicine among health specialties, developing clinical instructors' skills, and other innovations." He also discussed the importance of incorporating personalized or precision medicine into curricula. Combined with artificial intelligence, this approach forms an integrated system that redefines modern medical practice by accelerating diagnosis, improving accuracy, and reducing human error.
In his lecture on "Personalized Cancer Care and the Future of Precision Medicine," Dr. Mansour, keynote speaker, said artificial intelligence and machine learning have become fundamental pillars of modern medicine through predictive analytics, improved image quality, and diagnostic accuracy.
He noted that radiology technologies are now central to personalized medicine, and integration among laboratory, radiology, and clinical data is essential for optimal cancer care in the future.
He explained that personalized medicine and artificial intelligence represent a true revolution in healthcare and medical education, transforming diagnostic and treatment methodologies into precise and integrated practices that consider each patient's individual characteristics and open new horizons for developing more effective and less harmful treatments.
Dr. Amjad Al-Tariqi, chairman of the conference scientific committee, said the university included contemporary topics and activities addressing the latest scientific developments and global practices in personalized medicine, patient-specific treatments, strategies for improving individualized care, AI in medicine, and big data analysis to enhance diagnosis and treatment decisions.
The program also covered clinical and digital simulation techniques to improve students’ ability to handle complex cases and applied research linking theory to practice.
He added that the conference included scientific sessions and lectures by local and international experts, with 30 lectures and 40 research posters covering AI, healthcare innovation, and personalized medicine.
The conference also featured dialogue sessions, lectures, and specialized practical workshops and was accredited by the Jordan Medical Council for continuing medical education hours to enhance practical and cognitive skills.
The Student Interest Group, an initiative of the Faculty of Medicine, participated with 18 student teams, who presented innovative ideas and interactive projects on AI and personalized medicine.
The opening ceremony concluded with honoring sponsors, keynote speakers, and participating entities for their contributions, reflecting the university's commitment to modernizing medical education in Jordan and the region and providing an advanced learning environment.
