Amman, April 22 (Petra) – Board of Directors of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), chaired by Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Qatamin, has decided to issue 3 tenders for operating 35 new routes using a fleet of 108 passenger vehicles.

These routes will be distributed across the governorates of Zarqa, Mafraq, and Jerash, in a move aimed at expanding access and improving "efficiency and quality" of public transportation services.

According to the operational plan, 10 routes will be operated in Jerash governorate using 27 small and medium-sized passenger vehicles, while 7 routes will be launched in Zarqa governorate by deploying 50 small passenger vehicles, and 18 routes in Mafraq governorate using 31 small and medium-sized vehicles.

This plan reflects "operational flexibility" that addresses the nature of demand and the specific needs of each governorate.

On its feasibility, the decision is based on field studies that focused on identifying the "most requested" routes and connecting population centers with vital centers, mainly hospitals, schools, and departure and arrival points.

Additionally, this process ensures "equitable" distribution, comprehensive service coverage, and reduces service gaps between areas.

In a statement, the LTRC said this expansion is a "direct response to the growing demand for organized" public transport network, which enhances the regular and reliable service that reinforces reliance on public transport system as a safe and efficient option.

This expansion is expected to "positively" impact economic and social activity by facilitating citizens' movement to workplaces and educational institutions.

The step would also improve access to essential services and achieve "higher quality of life and enhanced stability" in the targeted governorates.
