Amman, June 26 (Petra)-- Tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers performed Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque despite tightened Israeli occupation security measures.

The Islamic Awqaf Department in Jerusalem said around 75,000 worshipers performed Friday prayer at the holy site, according to Palestinian media reports.

Local sources said tens of thousands of worshipers began arriving at Al-Aqsa Mosque early in the morning, while Israeli forces imposed strict security measures around the compound.

Large numbers of troops were deployed at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque and throughout Jerusalem's Old City. Israeli forces also erected dozens of metal barriers across the city, inside the Old City, and around the mosque compound, and stopped dozens of young Palestinians to check their identification documents.
