Amman, April 13 (Petra) – The Adaptation Fund's Board approved an initial proposal submitted by Jordan for a project on enhancing climate change resilience through agricultural innovation and green job creation, valued at $7 million, the Ministry of Environment said on Monday.

The proposal reflects growing international confidence in the Kingdom's efforts to address the challenges of climate change, it said in a statement.

It came during the 46th meeting of the Adaptation Fund's Board, held in Bonn, Germany, April 6-10, which is considered a key international platform to review and approve project proposals submitted by countries and make appropriate decisions on their funding and support.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in cooperation with the Environment Ministry, national entities, and beneficiary institutions, will begin drafting a detailed project document that will be finalized in the coming period, the statement said.

"This unique proposal focuses on enhancing climate change resilience through agricultural innovation and the creation of green jobs, reflecting Jordan's commitment to integrating climate action into economic and social development," said the ministry.

The approval of the initial proposal is a crucial step, as the Adaptation Fund has agreed to support the project's development through UNIDO, paving the way for its final approval in the coming period.

Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman said the endorsement of the initial proposal is "a pivotal milestone" in developing high-quality projects that strengthen Jordan's capacity to adapt to the impacts of climate change, within the framework of the government's efforts to implement its economic modernization vision.

The project, he said, combines stimulating agricultural innovation, promoting entrepreneurship, and expanding green job opportunities, thereby supporting sustainable livelihoods and enhancing the resilience of local communities, with a particular focus on empowering the most vulnerable groups, especially youth and women.
