Agriculture Minister, Lebanese counterpart talk relations

Amman, Sept. 16 (Petra) – Agriculture Minister Saeb Khreisat and his Lebanese counterpart Nizar Hani on Wednesday discussed prospects of enhancing cooperation between the two countries and expanding agricultural trade.

The ministers agreed on the importance of joint cooperation in agricultural fields and leveraging the comparative advantages of both countries to open new avenues for Jordanian and Lebanese produce, facilitate their market access, and foster the exchange of expertise in agricultural production and marketing.

The meeting addressed various issues, primarily enhancing the smooth flow of agricultural products between the two countries, exchanging data and technical expertise, and cooperating to develop agricultural value chains, improve product quality, and boost competitiveness in local and international markets.

The ministers underscored the importance of supporting agricultural produce and enhancing access to regional and international markets through closer cooperation among relevant entities in both countries.

The meeting also explored opportunities to leverage the strategic locations of Jordan and Lebanon as key hubs for agricultural trade in the region.

The meeting also addressed enhancing export cooperation and identifying new markets for agricultural products, which will increase the agricultural sector's value-added contribution to the national economy.

The meeting took place alongside Jordan’s hosting of the East Agricultural Exports Conference, a platform to discuss challenges and opportunities related to developing agricultural exports, fostering regional cooperation, and exchanging expertise in production, marketing, and access to foreign markets with the goal of boosting food security.
