Amman, Damascus chambers of commerce sign twinning agreement

Amman, February 2 (Petra) – The Amman and Damascus chambers of commerce on Monday signed a twinning agreement on the sidelines of the Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum held in Amman.

The agreement was signed by President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq and President of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Issam Gharwati, in the presence of Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Ya'rub Qudah, Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Muhammad Shaar and President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Alaa Ali.

The agreement aims to enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation between the private sectors in Jordan and Syria, facilitate joint projects and establish sustainable institutional partnerships.

It provides for the exchange of investment-related information, organisation of business delegations and trade missions, holding bilateral meetings, participation in exhibitions and the formation of joint committees to follow up on implementation.

Al-Haj Tawfiq said the agreement reflects the depth of Jordanian-Syrian relations and represents a practical step toward rebuilding economic ties on institutional foundations.

He added that joint action plans wwould be developed, with a follow-up visit by the Amman Chamber to Damascus after Eid.

Gharwati, in turn, described the agreement as a milestone in bilateral economic relations and a qualitative step toward restoring trade ties and expanding investment opportunities for the business communities of both countries.
