Amman Municipality approves community, environmental pacts

Amman, Oct. 18 (Petra) - The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) committee approved a series of agreements and regulatory updates on Sunday during its 14th extraordinary session.

The committee approved an amendment to Item 8 of Article 3 of the 2022 Instructions for Occupational Licenses in Residential Areas within GAM. Under the amendment, "streets serving licensed businesses must be no wider than 20 meters, with an exception for retail pharmacies." To advance community empowerment, the committee approved a draft agreement with the Fada Al Watan Charitable Society to provide women with vocational training in tailoring and cosmetology, alongside food assistance programs.

It renewed a memorandum of understanding with the Crown Prince Foundation’s Nahno platform to boost youth volunteer initiatives across local communities.

On environmental and public services, members endorsed a draft partnership with Asrar Al-Ma'rifah for Vocational Educaiton and Training to run community awareness campaigns for source-waste sorting.

Additionally, the committee extended an agreement with the Jordan Free and Devlopment Zones Group to handle waste collection along Dead Sea beaches, covering the stretch from the Baptism Site intersection to Al-Zara, to maintain clean public spaces and support regional tourism and investment.
