Amman, July 25 – Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and West London Chambers of Commerce signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the business communities of Jordan and the United Kingdom.

The agreement aims to expand direct communication channels between Jordanian and British companies, which would develop new partnerships and joint ventures.

According to an ACC statement issued Saturday, the memo was signed by its Chairman, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq, and the West London Chambers' Chief Executive Officer, Alan Rides.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Ya'rub Qudah, and the Minister of Investment, Dr. Tariq Abu-Ghazaleh, on the sidelines of the Jordanian-British Business Forum held in London.

Talking at the ceremony, Haj Tawfiq stated the MoU signed during the forum, which was attended by His Majesty King Abdullah II, reflects the commitment to turning the "distinguished" Jordanian-British relations into "feasible and direct" economic partnerships between the two countries' private sectors.

Haj Tawfiq noted the MoU also aims to capitalize on available opportunities to increase trade and investment and expand cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.

He stated ACC views the memo "not merely as a protocol framework, but as an institutional action plan that should lead to tangible results," adding that this process seeks to increase communication between companies, exchange trade delegations, organize business meetings, promote investment opportunities, and open new channels for Jordanian products and services in the British market.

Noting the importance of the British market for the Jordanian private sector, he said steps to strengthen direct communication between business owners in both countries would contribute to exploring fresh opportunities in trade, services, and investment, as well as facilitating knowledge and technology transfer and the exchange of expertise.

He said Jordan has "significant competitive priviliges, a sophisticated business environment, and a strategic location that qualifies it to be a platform for British companies seeking access to regional markets." He called for broadening the British business community's awareness of the opportunities the Kingdom offers across various economic sectors.

As for the next phase, he said the challenge lies in translating the momentum generated by the forum and His Majesty the King's meetings with British business leaders and investors into "actionable" opportunities, projects, and partnerships, within "institutional" mechanisms that ensure follow-up, continuity, and achievement of practical results.

Under the memo, the two sides will cooperate, in coordination with partners in the Jordanian and British private sectors, to establish a joint business council representing various economic sectors.

This effort aims to strengthen trade and investment relations, increase exports of goods and services, and support establishment of partnerships between members and the business communities on both sides.
