Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Launches Smart City Development Project

Amman, Jan. 11 (Petra) -- The Smart Aqaba City development project to to strengthen smart city capabilities was launched Sunday, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) stated. The four-year project, launched in collaboration with experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), falls within the comprehensive urban plan for the area (2020–2040) and focuses on planning, capacity building and practical implementation.
Mutasem Hindawi, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Urban Affairs, said during the inaugural coordination meeting with JICA experts that the project aims to enhance smart city capabilities, leverage digital solutions to improve urban services and quality of life, build local expertise and transform ASEZA's strategic vision into sustainable, actionable projects for citizens, investors and tourists.
Hindawi noted that working with JICA specialists provides an opportunity to assess current conditions, strengthen technical infrastructure, develop local human capacities and coordinate with local and international partners to translate strategic plans into implementable projects, promoting sustainability and economic and social development in Aqaba.
The project outcomes will guide a roadmap for smart urban development in areas including governance and public administration, infrastructure, transport, environment, tourism, economy, energy and disaster and risk management, ensuring readiness to implement smart city projects according to international best practices.
