Aqaba, May 4 (Petra) – The Aqaba company for transport & logistic recorded an unprecedented figure of 416,000 commuters in the first quarter of 2026, compared to 277,000 in the same period of 2025, with a growth rate of 51%.
The company also reported 202,000 commuters in April, the highest monthly figure in its history, bringing the total during the first four months of the year to 619,000.
It is an indication of accelerating growth and expanded user base that reinforces public transport as a primary option for getting around the city, it said.
Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Investment, Mohammad Abu Omar, said the record-breaking figures achieved by the Aqaba Transport Company, particularly during the first four months of the year, is "a qualitative leap" in its operational efficiency. This progress builds upon the company's success last year, when it served over 1.5 million people, further bolstering public confidence in Aqaba's public transport services, he added.
He owed the results to a package of projects adopted by the company as part of its strategic plans, aligning with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority's (ASEZA) strategy to improve quality of life and achieve green economy goals.
Abu Omar emphasized ASEZA's support for the company and its commitment to enabling the implementation of its development programs. He also said the next phase will see introduction of 14 new buses to modernize the fleet, as well as restructuring public transport routes in Aqaba to enhance operational efficiency and elevate service standards.
For his part, Khaled Abu Abdullah, CEO of Aqaba Company for Transport & Logistics, said the record commuter figures in such a short period reflects a high level of operational efficiency and underscores the success of plans focused on the comprehensive development of the transport system.
This includes fleet modernization, expanding coverage, improving service quality and punctuality, and introducing electronic payment and smart tracking systems, which helped to increased reliability and enhanced commuter confidence.
