Aqaba, Jan. 19 (Petra) - The Aqaba Transport and Logistic Services Company celebrated a record achievement after 1.5 million passengers used its transportation services during the last year.

The announcement came during a ceremony patronized by Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Shadi Al-Majali, attended by Aqaba Governor Ayman Al-Awaisheh, members of the Board of Commissioners, and official and community representatives.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Khaled Abu Abdullah, said the qualitative leap comes within a clear roadmap to build a national model for an integrated urban transport system that can be replicated across the Kingdom, reflecting the success of the company’s development-oriented approach based on measured expansion, improved service quality, and enhanced operational efficiency.

He added that under the company’s strategic plan for 2025–2028, it aims to reach two million passengers by 2028, noting that 14 modern buses will be added to its fleet by mid-year, alongside the creation of new job opportunities, a move toward environmentally friendly transport, and the launch of a dedicated electronic application for Aqaba’s transport system to enhance ease of use and elevate the urban transport experience.

He noted that the company has grown since its establishment in 2009, with a capital of JD300,000 and a fleet of 10 buses, to a capital of around JD3 million and a fleet of 81 buses, while its workforce now numbers 325 employees.

He added that passenger numbers rose from about 150,000 in 2017 to 1.5 million in 2025, a clear indicator of the qualitative transformation witnessed by the public transport system in Aqaba as a result of developing the operational infrastructure, ensuring service regularity, and raising quality and safety standards through the introduction of electronic tracking systems, smart monitoring, and the adoption of multiple electronic payment methods.

At the conclusion of the celebration, ASEZA Chairman inaugurated the company’s administration building after its rehabilitation and toured its facilities, departments, and modern equipment completed as part of the company’s institutional development project.
