Aqaba, July 7 (Petra) -- Aqaba has achieved a regional milestone after two environmentally friendly tourist boats became the first in the Middle East to receive the internationally recognized Blue Flag certification, reinforcing Jordan's position as a destination for sustainable marine tourism.

The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) announced Tuesday that the certification was awarded to "Deep Blue 2", owned by Capt. Mohammad Al-Ladawi, and "Al-Rais 1", owned by Capt. Bahaa Al-Dosari, after both vessels met international standards for environmental management, safety, service quality, waste management and environmental awareness.

Chairman of the JREDS Board of Directors Eng. Khaled Al-Kurdi told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the achievement is the culmination of years of collaboration with local and international partners and marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainable marine tourism in Jordan.

He noted that only 158 boats worldwide have obtained the Blue Flag certification.

Chief Executive Officer of Ayla Oasis Development Company Eng. Sahl Dudin said the achievement reflects Ayla's commitment to implementing the highest standards of sustainability.

Talabay Group Chief Executive Officer Rami Odeh said the certification awarded to "Deep Blue 2" further enhances Aqaba's standing as a destination for sustainable marine tourism.

The owners of the two vessels expressed pride in receiving the certification, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the marine environment and adopting internationally recognized sustainable practices.

The Blue Flag is one of the world's leading environmental certification programs, awarded to beaches, marinas, tourism boats and other facilities that comply with stringent standards for environmental management, safety and sustainability.

The certification is expected to strengthen confidence in Jordan's tourism product and further position Aqaba as a leading destination for sustainable marine tourism.
