Cairo, Aug. 7 (Petra)-- Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Fahmy condemned the Houthi attacks targeting Najran in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in injuries to several civilians, as well as attacks in recent hours on positions and units belonging to Yemen’s government forces in Marib and Hadramout, which left several people dead and wounded.
Fahmy said that targeting Saudi territory and endangering the lives of civilians, coupled with the continued attacks and military escalation inside Yemen, represents a highly dangerous course that threatens regional security and stability and undermines prospects for de-escalation and a political settlement.
He expressed the Arab League’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting any attack targeting its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while stressing the need to halt the Houthi attacks and the ongoing escalation in Yemen.
The Arab League chief stressed that the current stage requires de-escalation, refraining from any actions that could widen the scope of the confrontation, and returning to the political track in a manner that safeguards Saudi Arabia’s security and stability, as well as Yemen’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
