Cairo, April 12 (Petra) – The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on Sunday condemned the Israeli authorities' approval of plans to establish 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank as a grave and blatant violation of international law.
In a statement, the League warned that the Israeli violations would deepen regional tensions and instability, undermine prospects for a just and comprehensive peace and hinder international efforts to revive a serious and credible political process based on the two-state solution.
It stressed that this process should lead to ending the occupation and establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The League called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take practical and effective steps, including activating international accountability mechanisms to immediately halt the Israeli settlement activities.
