Amman, June 26 (Petra)-- The Eastern Military Zone thwarted two attempts to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the Kingdom early Friday using electronically guided balloons, a military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces said.

The source added that the Border Guard units detected the balloons within the military zone's area of responsibility and successfully intercepted and brought them down along with their drug payloads inside Jordanian territory.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the country's security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. The seized drugs were transferred to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
