Amman, June 28 (Petra) – Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, on Sunday launched its free summer centers for Quran memorization for both males and females.
The two-month program is held under the theme: "A Cleaner Environment and a More Refined Society." During the launch ceremony at King Hussein Gardens, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Khalaileh, said this year's summer centers represent a "comprehensive" educational and national project, aimed at promoting Islamic values to become a practical behavior.
Khalaileh noted the ministry launched the centers this year in partnership with the Ministry of Environment to solidify the culture of environmental conservation as an integral part of Islamic teachings.
"Holy Quran is not limited to memorization and recitation, but also calls for building righteous individuals who cultivate and protect the earth," he pointed out.
He said the activities aim to maintain environmental cleanliness and preserve public facilities, adding that cleanliness represents a "religious, cultural, and health value that reflects advancement of societies." The ministry, he stated, seeks to open approximately 3,000 summer centers nationwide this year, anticipating that more than 200,000 male and female students will benefit from their services.
He said participation in these centers is "completely free, noting instruction will take place in mosques under the supervision of a select group of qualified male and female teachers.
On other activities, he stated the program features cultural and religious competitions, sports events, and volunteer clean-up campaigns around mosques and summer centers.
He announced classes for males will be held on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while lessons for females will be held on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays.
As for their venues, he noted lessons will take place in mosque courtyards and Quranic centers, adding that the ministry has identified the approved locations countrywide, alongside names of the male and female supervisors, via its website and official social media pages.
