London, June 24 (Petra) – Britain recorded a sharp increase in temperatures on Wednesday, with readings exceeding 35 degrees Celsius in several areas, prompting official warnings over a severe heatwave that has disrupted daily life, according to the BBC.

Authorities issued red warnings for parts of England and Wales due to the extreme heat, later extending them to additional areas in southern England. Orange alerts were also issued, cautioning that hot weather conditions are expected to persist through the weekend.

The heatwave forced more than 1,000 schools across England and Wales to close or reduce operating hours and caused significant disruptions to transportation services.

Train services were canceled in parts of Wales, while rail networks across Britain experienced delays and reduced speeds. Transport operators urged passengers to avoid non-essential travel.

Meanwhile, Eurostar advised some passengers, particularly those most vulnerable to heat-related health risks, to postpone their journeys as high temperatures continue to affect rail infrastructure across Europe.

Postal services, however, confirmed that deliveries would continue, with measures in place to protect workers from the impact of the extreme heat.
