Amman, Aug. 21 (Petra)-- The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) affirmed that it continues to closely monitor airlines operating from the Kingdom’s airports to ensure compliance with applicable regulations protecting passengers’ and consumers’ rights in air transport.

The Commission stressed that aviation safety and passenger security remain its highest regulatory and supervisory priorities, with zero tolerance for violations.

In a statement issued Friday, CARC emphasized that airlines are strictly prohibited from operating any flight if an aircraft has a technical malfunction. Flights may only resume after the malfunction has been fully and conclusively repaired in accordance with approved technical manuals and after licensed and accredited engineering and technical teams have thoroughly verified the aircraft’s readiness and airworthiness, in line with international aviation safety standards and regulations.

The Commission outlined airlines’ obligations toward passengers in cases of flight delays and cancellations, including providing immediate care and assistance, such as meals, refreshments and communication services, when delays exceed the prescribed periods.

Airlines must also provide suitable hotel accommodation and transportation when an overnight stay is required, while offering passengers the option of rebooking on alternative flights or receiving a full refund without additional charges, in addition to paying compensation stipulated under applicable regulations.

CARC also affirmed airlines’ responsibility to compensate passengers in cases of delay, damage or loss of checked baggage in accordance with international standards, including the Montreal Convention, as well as national regulations. Passengers were reminded to file a Property Irregularity Report at the airport before leaving the arrivals hall in the event of baggage problems.

The Commission further stressed that airlines must first seek volunteers in cases of denied boarding. If sufficient volunteers cannot be found, carriers must immediately provide alternative travel arrangements or a full refund, in addition to the legally prescribed financial compensation.

It also emphasized the need to provide people with disabilities and elderly passengers with all necessary assistance and facilities at airports and on board aircraft free of charge and without any additional financial burden.

CARC urged passengers who experience any failure to provide these rights or any other violation to first submit an official complaint to the airline concerned. If the airline fails to respond or provide a fair resolution, passengers may file a complaint directly with the Commission through its official channels and the electronic complaints service available on its website at www.carc.gov.jo, so that the necessary action can be taken.
