Amman, Jan. 7 (Petra) – The Kingdom is expected to see a return to cooler, wet weather this weekend as a cold front moves in from the Mediterranean, ending a brief stretch of mild January conditions. While today and Thursday will remain relatively pleasant – with temperatures in Amman reaching a high of 18 C – a low-pressure system currently centered over Cyprus is expected to reach the Kingdom on Friday, January 9.

The transition will begin Friday morning with a noticeable drop in temperatures across all governorates. Rainfall is expected to start in the northern regions before spreading to central and southwestern areas by the evening. This front is likely to bring heavy downpours at times, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in the northern and central highlands, as well as the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. For those in the south, the highest peaks of the Shara Mountains could see intermittent sleet or light snow mixed with rain during the late hours of Friday and into early Saturday.

Temperatures today are expected to range from a high of 18 C and a low of 8 C in East Amman, while West Amman will see 16 C and 6 C. The Jordan Valley and Aqaba will remain much warmer, with highs between 23 C and 26 C. However, by Saturday, the weather will remain cold and overcast throughout the country, with scattered showers continuing in western parts of the Kingdom until the system clears Saturday evening. In the meantime, authorities have cautioned against approaching valleys and low-lying areas due to potential flash floods, and drivers are urged to be prepared for reduced visibility on mountain roads caused by fog and low clouds throughout the weekend.
