Amman, April 13 (Petra) – Jordan proved an ability to effectively address challenges, particularly in the energy and food security sectors, in recent times, Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, said.
During a meeting held Monday by the Chamber, which which brought together representatives of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), renewable energy companies, and the Energy Management Authority, Tawfiq said joint efforts by the public and private sectors contributed to maintaining a stable energy sector and ensuring uninterrupted supply.
Jordan has not experienced any real supply crises, whether in energy or basic commodities, he said, noting that food reserves were sufficient and supply chains operated with high efficiency.
The meeting tackled regulatory and technical issues related to renewable energy systems and ways to enhance and develop the sector's business environment in the coming period.
Key challenges and opportunities facing energy sector companies were presented during the meeting, addressing regulatory and technical obstacles that curtailed the expansion of some companies. Promising opportunities available in light of the growth of renewable energy projects and the potential for increased investment in the field were also discussed.
EMRC Chairman Ziad Sa'ayde, said the energy sector in Jordan has demonstrated high readiness and efficiency despite regional challenges as the supply system was uninterrupted and it continued to provide electricity and petroleum products to various regions of the Kingdom.
The regional crisis, he added, was managed prudently and effectively by the various stakeholders, which contributed to maintaining the continuity of supply in vital sectors.
Sa'aydeh also said work is underway to improve the performance of power distribution companies, develop networks, and enhance their efficiency within investment plans, ensuring better service and expediting the connection of new systems.
