Amman, Jan. 20 (Petra) - The Hand in Hand Foundation for Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship announced it will hold a conference titled "From Hives to Horizons: Building a Sustainable Bee Economy in Jordan" on Jan. 28, with the participation of representatives from government and European bodies, as well as experts, researchers, environmental organizations and entrepreneurs from Jordan and the Mediterranean region.

According to a foundation statement issued Tuesday, the conference, to be held in Amman, will witness the launch of the "PLANBEE" project, which aims to enhance the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in the beekeeping sector, support sustainable development, and improve the quality of local production, contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and boosting the competitiveness of Jordanian products in regional and international markets.

The project will also focus on protecting biodiversity and supporting ecotourism and rural tourism linked to the beekeeping sector.

The conference program will include specialized discussion sessions and presentations on the current state of the beekeeping sector in Jordan, the impact of climate change, and honey branding, in addition to highlighting the role of women entrepreneurs in the sector through the MED Queens initiative. It will also showcase experiences in beekeeping-based tourism (Apitourism) and Honeybee Routes as tools to enhance community income in rural areas.

The conference will also feature a special economic session with the participation of representatives from the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, during which the project’s objectives, activities, and expected impact on Mediterranean Basin countries will be presented.

The PLANBEE project is funded at 89 percent by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, with a total budget of €2.8 million, in partnership with seven institutions from Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine.

The foundation invited those wishing to attend remotely (online) to register via the following link: [https://bit.ly/4qt06jz].
