Amman, November 24 (Petra) – The government announced on Monday the start of construction on 19 new schools that will provide education to 12,000 students across Jordan.
The project falls under the government's corporate social responsibility initiative, launched last March with support from private-sector institutions.
According to a Ministry of Education statement, the new schools will include 309 classrooms and 15 kindergarten rooms. Construction progress for 14 schools currently ranges between 10% and 67%.
Three schools are expected to be completed in this December, while the remaining 16 will be delivered by 2026.
The new schools will feature dedicated spaces for teachers and administrators, student playgrounds and sports fields, theaters and interactive whiteboards.
The Ministry said locations were selected based on urgent needs and priorities within the educational sector, with the aim of addressing key challenges such as dependence on rented buildings, overcrowded classrooms, double-shift systems and the need to expand vocational education.
Two schools will be built in Irbid. Maru Basic Mixed School in the Irbid District, which faces severe overcrowding and lacks an adequate basic school building. Construction is over 61% complete.
Al Mukhaiba Secondary School for Girls in Bani Kinanah District, where studies are being finalised before tendering. The school suffers from overcrowding, insufficient administrative offices and a need to separate different grade levels and add kindergarten classrooms.
Jerash.
Construction is underway on a new building for Aysara Basic Mixed School, previously operating in a rented facility and struggling with overcrowding.
The project is 44% complete and will allow the rented buildings used by Aysara Basic Mixed School and Amina Bint Wahb (evening shift) to be vacated, easing pressure on Sakib Secondary Mixed School and Amina Bint Wahb (morning shift).
A new Omar Bin Al Khattab School will also be built.
Amman. Two schools are under construction in Al Quwaysimah and Na'ur districts. A new building for the Al Quwaysimah and Abu Alanda Secondary School for Girls, aimed at expanding vocational education, is 67% complete.
The new building for Al Bunyat Basic School in Na'ur is 58% complete. It will eliminate the double-shift system at Al Buniyat Secondary School for Girls and reduce overcrowding at the Al Buniyat Coeducational Basic School.
It will take in students from the recently vacated Al Qalla Basic School. The area continues to experience steady population growth, especially among school-age girls.
Balqa.
A new school is being built in Ain Al Basha to eliminate double shifts at Bilal Bin Rabah Basic School for Boys and Ain Al Basha Basic School for Boys, as well as to replace rented buildings. The project is 15% complete.
In Deir Alla, studies are underway to tender a new building for Umm Hammad Basic School for Boys, which will replace the current rented structure and reduce overcrowding.
The existing location is not served by public transport.
Three schools will be built in Mafraq.
Abu Dhar Al Ghafari Basic School for Boys in the Northwest Badia District is 62% complete. The project will eliminate the rented building and reduce overcrowding at Al Mansoura School for Boys while transferring students from Granada Basic Mixed School.
Umm Qattin Secondary School for Boys in the North Eastern Badia District is 10% complete. The project will allow three rented buildings housing various Umm Qattin Basic Mixed Schools to be vacated.
In the Qasaba District, studies are being finalised for a new building for Prince Muhammad Secondary Kindergarten for Boys, which will ease classroom overcrowding and allow two schools to be separated.
Ajloun.
Construction has begun on Hay Sukreen Secondary School, now 13% complete. The new building will replace a rented facility, reduce overcrowding at Anjara Secondary School for Girls and expand vocational education offerings (BTEC).
Karak and Ma'an.
In Karak, a new building for Nusaiba Al Maziniya Basic Mixed School in the Qasaba District is 16% complete and will replace a rented building, helping to reduce overcrowding at Al Adnaniyah Basic Mixed School.
In Ma'an, construction is over 60% complete for a new building for Fatima Al Zahra Basic Mixed School, which will replace two rented buildings.
Umm Salamah Basic Mixed School will be merged with Umm Salamah Al Ansariyah School, reducing overcrowding at Abdul Rahman Bin Auf Secondary School. The school will be upgraded to include tenth grade.
In the Petra District, studies are being finalised for a new building for Nusaibah Al Mazniyah Mixed School, which currently operates in a small, outdated two-story residential building that no longer meets the community's needs.
Three schools will be built in Zarqa.
In Zarqa First Directorate, construction is 40% complete on Al Ahmad Basic School for Boys, which will eliminate the double-shift system at Aqaba Bin Nafe' Elementary Schools No. 1 and No. 2 and accommodate students from the Nassar neighbourhood.
In Zarqa Second Directorate, Prince Abdullah Neighbourhood Elementary School (co-ed) is 63% complete. It will reduce overcrowding, address classroom shortages and incorporate vocational and kindergarten facilities.
Al Saleh Neighbourhood Elementary School (co-ed) is 15% complete and aims to eliminate double shifts and provide easier access for families lacking transport.
Madaba.
Construction is more than 63% complete on Al Khattabiya Elementary School for Boys, which will replace a rented building, ease overcrowding and add vocational classrooms.
