Amman, July 20 (Petra) -- First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Khamis Atiyeh condemned the Iranian attack targeting Jordanian territory, saying that any violation of the kingdom's security, sovereignty or the safety of its citizens constitutes an unacceptable act of aggression and a flagrant breach of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.
Atiyeh said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is a fully sovereign state and will not allow any party to turn its territory or airspace into an arena for settling regional disputes.
He said the country's security, state sovereignty and the safety of its citizens are red lines that cannot be compromised.
Atiyeh added that any attempt to draw Jordan into conflicts unrelated to its interests or impose realities that threaten its security and stability would be a strategic mistake.
He said the Jordanian state, under its Hashemite leadership and through its national institutions, has the determination, readiness and capability to protect its borders and defend its sovereignty with resolve.
He affirmed the Lower House's support for the Jordan Armed Forces Arab Army and the security agencies, commending their role in protecting the kingdom's airspace and safeguarding national security.
Atiyeh also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a clear and firm position against any attack targeting Jordan or threatening its security and stability.
He said Jordan remains committed to promoting wisdom, de-escalation, and political solutions while rejecting escalation, but stressed that this does not mean accepting violations of its sovereignty or threats to the lives of its citizens.
"The kingdom's security and sovereignty are not open to negotiation or compromise," he said.
Atiyeh added that Jordanians, under the Hashemite leadership, stand united in the face of any threat and that attempts to undermine the kingdom's security would only strengthen the country's resolve, unity and determination to defend its sovereignty and independent decision-making.
