Amman, Aug. 4 (Petra) – The Economic Policies Committee of the Economic and Social Council of Jordan held a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by committee head Jamal Al-Rifai, to discuss its work program for the coming period, with a focus on conducting systematic assessments of the kingdom's key economic sectors.
The meeting was attended by Economic and Social Council President Musa Shteiwi, Secretary-General Natheer Al-Awamleh and committee members Hamdi Al-Tabbaa, Ramzi Al-Maaytah, Mohammad Al-Hadab and Fadi Marji, along with committee coordinator Ziad Dradkeh.
The committee discussed preparing a work plan centred on studying economic sectors through a structured methodology, analysing the challenges and opportunities they face and developing recommendations aimed at strengthening the council's role in providing evidence-based economic policy advice grounded in research and scientific analysis.
Shteiwi stressed the importance of adopting a scientific approach to examining economic issues and sectors to produce practical, evidence-based recommendations that support policymakers and contribute to sustainable economic development.
Al-Rifai highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah II's overseas visits, particularly agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded during those trips, to open new markets for Jordanian products and industries, expand export and investment opportunities, and support the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision while enhancing the competitiveness of the Jordanian economy.
Committee rapporteur Reem Al-Baghdadi presented the main elements of the proposed work plan, which aims to establish an institutional framework for organizing the committee's work and setting priorities through a scientific methodology focused on analyzing priority economic sectors and policy issues.
Committee members stressed the need to prioritize studies of productive sectors, particularly industry and energy, as well as development zones, the investment environment, the cost of capital, small and medium-sized enterprises, the services sector, and financing and employment opportunities, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy.
