Education Ministry Concludes Four-Year Project to Strengthen Learning Environment

Amman, Dec. 4 (Petra) – The Ministry of Education and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Thursday concluded a four-year Project for Positive Learning Environment for All Children (PLEAC) in Jordan.

Director of Education Administration at the Ministry, Ahmad Masa’feh, highlighted the project’s role in giving students a more active role in the learning process and equipping teachers with strategies that support a more effective classroom environment. The initiative also trained supervisors, principals, and teachers on questioning techniques and classroom board organization.

Takahiro Suzuki, Senior Representative of JICA Jordan, said the project sought to improve the learning environment for all children following the Japanese model and with the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

He noted that the program focused on enhancing classroom management, comprehensive training, developing instructional methods, and engaging children in extracurricular activities. Efforts, he pointed out, have strengthened cooperation within classrooms and built trust between students and teachers.

Project Team Leader Ken Furukawa said the initiative contributed to changing teacher behavior in instructional strategies, classroom and school management, and parent engagement, particularly as it followed the PLEAC approach, which in turn led to improvements in lesson quality, attendance, and overall student engagement.

Director of Training and Educational Supervision at the Ministry, Jum’ah Saud, presented the project’s sustainability plan, stating that the goal is to reach every student efficiently while respecting their individuality and abilities.

The ceremony included presentations on best practices in classroom management, teaching methods, school administration, and parent cooperation, in addition to an open classroom session.

The project established a model for a positive learning environment that ensures all children benefit from a safe, inclusive, and engaging educational setting. It implemented pilot activities in 9 education directorates and 37 schools, focusing on strengthening the capacities of teachers and principals, developing standard operating procedures at school and directorate levels, and building a framework for nationwide expansion.
