Education Ministry, UNHCR Sign Refugee Data-Sharing Deal

Amman, July 20 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Education, through the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Education Technology and Information, and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on Monday signed a data-sharing agreement to facilitate the exchange of personal information on refugees and asylum seekers in support of their integration into the Kingdom's national education system.

It was sealed by Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah and UNHCR Representative in Jordan Maria Stavropoulou, according to a ministry statement.

The agreement establishes a framework for exchanging personal data collected and maintained by the ministry's Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Education Technology and Information and UNHCR.

It aims to support the integration of refugee and asylum-seeker students into Jordan's national education system in line with UNHCR policies and the government's education strategy.

Under the agreement, UNHCR will provide technical support to enhance the student module within the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center's Student Information System, enabling the ministry to verify the legal status of refugee and asylum-seeker students using information from the proGres v4 database.

The ministry said the agreement will also help policymakers evaluate the impact of education policies and initiatives, strengthen evidence-based decision-making, and improve the design and implementation of education policies.

It also provides for linking UNHCR's database with the Ajyal educational platform.
