Cairo, Oct 11 (Petra) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and his US counterpart Marco Rubio on Saturday discussed arrangements for holding the Sharm El-Sheikh summit on Gaza, which will be co-chaired by the Egyptian and US leaders.

The meeting tackled the situation in the region, the positive developments in the Palestinian issue, and efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian ministry said in a statement.

The ministers addressed substantive arrangements for the summit, international participation in it, and implementation of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, it said.

Rubio considered the Sharm El-Sheikh summit a unique historical event, hailing Cairo's leading role, which contributed to reaching "this historic agreement." Abdel Aati stressed the need to follow up and implement the ceasefire on the ground, both during the first and second phases, noting that the agreement gives hope to the peoples of the region, especially the Palestinians.

"These constructive and positive developments embody the shared values and goals that unite Egypt and the United States, based on the need to opt for peaceful solutions to resolve conflicts, not military means," he said.

Abdel Ati reiterated that a settlement to the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution will achieve the aspired-for stability, peace, and security in the region.
