Amman, May 2 (Petra) – Independent Election Commission (IEC) Chief Commissioner Musa Maaytah said on Saturday Jordan forged ahead with political modernization as a project of the Jordanian state aimed to enhance public life and pluralism.

He was addressing secretaries-general of political parties and their representatives at a seminar organized by the Sada Al-Sha'ab Center for Strategic Studies and Research.

Party work is based on polarization; therefore, it is incumbent upon parties to adopt national issues that grip the public's attention, and they should also develop compelling programs and present issues and solutions with positive objectives, said Maaytah.

He said the IEC endeavors to build political parties' capacities and develop political life in line with the vision of His Majesty the King and the Jordanian state.

The commission, he said, plans to offer a diploma in party management and organization through its Jordanian Electoral Institute, in cooperation with the University of Jordan, to build parties' capacities in organizing and managing election campaigns and formulating key messages during elections.

Maaytah said the IEC board of commissioners has approved standards to enhance good governance within political parties to develop democratic life, achieve political modernization, bolster internal democracy, update parties' bylaws, barring their establishment on sectarian grounds, and turning them into effective national institutions capable of collective work.
