Energy Audits in Industrial Sector Identify JD 12.5 Million Annual Savings, Boost Competitiveness

Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday launched a national report on the findings of energy audits in Jordan’s industrial sector, conducted by the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) in partnership with the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Jordan Strategy Forum.

The report covers 180 audits carried out across industrial facilities from 2016 to 2026, generating over 1,000 energy efficiency recommendations. The audits identified potential annual savings of JD 12.5 million, requiring total investments of JD 36.7 million. Every dinar invested in energy audits is projected to yield JD 3.44 in returns, improving production efficiency, enhancing competitiveness, and creating additional job opportunities.

Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairperson of JREEEF, described energy audits as essential for reducing operational costs, supporting economic growth, and creating employment. "Audits, once considered nonessential, are now critical tools for achieving financial savings, particularly in high-value industrial sectors," he said, noting that some industries have already transformed energy costs from a burden into an opportunity.

Nisreen Barakat, Executive Director of the Jordan Strategy Forum, highlighted energy efficiency as a key economic pathway to reduce production costs and maximize investment returns.

MP Ayman Abu Hanieh, Head of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, stressed that audits are a sovereign economic tool that stabilizes investments, creates quality jobs, and mitigates burdens on the national economy.

Rasmi Hamza, Executive Director of JREEEF, confirmed that the fund’s support, totaling approximately JD 1.3 million in grants, provided a comprehensive and data-driven assessment of industrial energy efficiency.

Hazem Rahahleh, Director General of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, underscored that energy efficiency strengthens competitiveness domestically and internationally, noting the industrial sector contributes 25% of GDP, provides over 250,000 direct jobs, and accounts for 91% of national exports.
