Amman, March 30 (Petra) -- Energy-efficient electrical appliances remain widely available in Jordan’s local market, with stable prices and uninterrupted supply chains, easing concerns over shortages and reducing the need for precautionary buying, according to sector representatives.

Hatem Al-Zoubi, representative of the electrical and electronics sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, said supply levels are strong and goods continue to flow smoothly into the market, supported by steady import activity.

He noted a growing shift in consumer demand toward solar-powered systems, particularly for lighting purposes, as households increasingly seek alternative energy solutions and strengthen precautionary measures amid regional uncertainties.

Demand is currently concentrated on solar panels and their components, including batteries and charging units, in addition to small-scale lighting systems, solar chargers, and residential and garden lighting units. Al-Zoubi said demand for batteries linked to solar systems is rising notably, driven by increased reliance on off-grid and backup energy solutions.

Despite the uptick in demand, Al-Zoubi emphasized that these products remain available in sufficient quantities across the market, with no significant price increases recorded. He attributed price stability to adequate inventory levels and continued import flows.

On the supply side, shipments of electrical appliances continue to arrive through Aqaba Port from China and other East Asian countries. Al-Zoubi said these trade routes pass through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and are not affected by ongoing developments in the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring continuity in supply chains.

He warned consumers against installing solar energy systems through unlicensed providers, stressing the importance of working with officially registered companies and securing approvals from relevant authorities, noting that violations could lead to financial penalties or technical risks.

Al-Zoubi also cautioned against misleading advertisements circulating on social media, particularly those promoting low-cost or unidentified lighting products. He said such items are often of inferior quality and may not comply with Jordanian technical standards.

He reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to providing products that meet approved specifications and safety requirements, urging consumers to purchase from trusted and verified sources.

The Jordan Chamber of Commerce, he added, continues to coordinate with government entities, including the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to streamline procedures and address any logistical challenges facing the sector.

Jordan’s electrical appliances market remains highly competitive, supported by a wide range of import sources and a large number of operators. The sector includes more than 3,000 traders across the Kingdom and provides approximately 25,000 jobs, reflecting its role as a key component of the domestic retail economy.
