Energy Ministry Signs Agreement to Advance Green Transition in Industrial Heating

Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Wednesday signed an agreement to launch a green transition pathway for industrial heating operations, reinforcing national efforts to integrate clean energy solutions into the industrial sector.

The agreement was signed with factories belonging to Khairat Al-Shamal and Dajaj Al-Khair companies, in partnership with the Industrial Power for Energy Solutions. It represents an initial phase of a broader transition plan that will later be expanded to cover all factories within the group.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said the agreement reflects effective coordination between the energy and industrial sectors, contributing to lower production costs, reduced dependence on conventional energy sources, and mitigation of environmental impact, while supporting Jordan’s shift toward a sustainable green economy.

He noted that the Ministry continues to implement projects aimed at supplying the industrial sector with natural gas, stressing the importance of ensuring the availability of compressed and liquefied natural gas to support national industry and advance the objectives of the National Energy Strategy, particularly increasing the share of domestic energy sources in the overall energy mix.

Al-Kharabsheh added that expanding the use of renewable energy in industrial applications helps reduce operational costs, attract investment, and enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian products in international markets. He also highlighted the employment opportunities created through specialized renewable energy solutions, including concentrated solar power and photovoltaic systems, which are emerging as leading sectors in Jordan and the region.

Chairman of Khairat Al-Shamal and Dajaj Al-Khair companies Khairou Al-Mashaqbeh welcomed the agreement, praising the Ministry’s support for national industry through advanced energy solutions that strengthen the competitiveness of Jordanian products. He noted that the local poultry sector has developed strong production capabilities and is approaching self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on imports.

Director General of Industrial Power for Energy Solutions Mohammad Affaneh said the company remains committed to supporting sustainable development by creating job opportunities, prioritizing local procurement, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. He emphasized the importance of translating national renewable energy goals into practical projects with tangible economic and environmental outcomes.

The first phase of the project will utilize concentrated solar and photovoltaic energy for direct industrial heating, with a total capacity of one megawatt. It will initially serve the group’s feed manufacturing plant in Mafraq, forming the foundation for a gradual expansion to additional facilities as part of a broader environmental and economic transition initiative.
