Amman, Aug. 8 (Petra) – Several energy-sector projects have made progress during the first half of 2026 under the executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision for 2026-2029, according to a progress report.

On green hydrogen projects, an investment agreement was signed with Jordan Green Ammonia Company for a $1 billion project, supporting the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the kingdom.

The project aims to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, with financial close expected in 2027 and commercial operations scheduled to begin in 2030.

An electricity power purchase agreement was also signed for a project to build two combined-cycle power plants, each with a capacity of 700 megawatts.

The relevant authorities also approved the implementation of four strategic projects to supply natural gas to industrial cities, including Al-Rawda and Al-Muwaqar industrial estates, as well as the King Hussein bin Talal Development Area and the Zarqa Industrial Estate.

On exploration projects, drilling began on a new phase of wells as part of the development of the Risha Gas Field. The first well has been completed, while drilling and technical evaluation of additional wells are continuing.

The report also highlighted progress in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Electricity was connected to 203 sites across the kingdom under the Rural Electrification Fund program, at a total cost of JD1.813 million.

Traditional street-lighting units in municipalities were also replaced with LED units under the same program. A total of 9,396 units were installed at a cost of JD3 million, helping improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Work also began on projects to install solar photovoltaic systems for municipalities across northern, central, and southern Jordan. The project aims to equip 70 municipalities with solar systems.

The value of solar photovoltaic projects connected to and operating independently of the electricity grid reached 873,000 dinars. A total of 762 solar systems had been installed for beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund and low-income households out of a targeted 1,086 systems.

The first phase of a project to install solar water-heating systems at nine government hospitals was also completed. Twenty engineers and technicians from maintenance teams received training, while technical studies for the second phase were completed. The second phase will target 15 additional government hospitals.

The report said 4,026 residential solar water-heating systems had been installed through approved financing mechanisms. The program's electronic platform was also upgraded, and 40 cooperation agreements were signed with civil society organizations, with contracts for another 15 organizations under preparation.

Energy efficiency in the industrial sector was strengthened through the assessment of 13 applications from factories, the signing of five cooperation agreements, and approval of energy-audit studies for six factories.

In the tourism sector, 18 applications from hotels seeking to benefit from the energy audit program were also assessed.

The first phase of a project to improve energy efficiency in government buildings was launched, covering nine ministries. Technical and financial bids are currently being evaluated, while preparations are under way for a second phase targeting six additional ministries.
