Amman, June 18 (Petra) -- Technology and business experts say entrepreneurship has become a central force reshaping the country’s economy, driving growth, innovation, and job creation as the Kingdom accelerates its transition toward a digital and knowledge-based future.

They explained that new business creation is no longer seen simply as launching startups, but as a broader economic engine that strengthens entire sectors. By turning ideas into scalable ventures, entrepreneurship is helping improve productivity, raise competitiveness, and open new opportunities across industries such as technology, trade, tourism, agriculture, and services.

Officials and experts also pointed to the growing recognition from international institutions. During a recent visit to Jordan, World Bank Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde stressed that entrepreneurship should be treated as a practical pathway to economic expansion, employment, and long-term prosperity.

Within the local ICT sector, representatives such as Haitham Al-Rawajbeh highlighted that startups and tech-driven companies are playing a major role in job creation, particularly in fields like programming, marketing, operations, logistics, and technical support. He emphasized that as these companies scale, they absorb more talent and help integrate young graduates into the labor market.

He also noted that entrepreneurship does more than create jobs, it introduces new solutions, upgrades services, and pushes traditional sectors to become more efficient and competitive. However, this growth depends on building a strong ecosystem that includes funding, training, mentorship, simplified regulations, and stronger links between innovators and markets.

Academics echoed this broader impact, with Dr. Reham Zughair from Luminus Technical University College explaining that entrepreneurship is reshaping how economies function by turning challenges into opportunities and creating new business models. She stressed that its true value lies in sustainable impact, innovation, and building a resilient economy rather than just employment numbers.

From the private sector, entrepreneur Hussam Hammo of Tamatem Games pointed to Jordan’s growing success stories in tech, showing how startups can evolve into regional players that attract investment, create hundreds of jobs, and export digital products globally. He said this demonstrates the importance of a supportive environment that includes financing, accelerators, and modern regulations.

Similarly, entrepreneur Nour Khreis highlighted that entrepreneurship’s impact extends beyond founders, as it generates indirect jobs through partnerships, supply chains, and supporting services. He added that innovation within existing companies, known as intrapreneurship, is equally important in driving internal improvement and competitiveness.

The report concluded that strengthening support for small and medium enterprises, encouraging innovation inside institutions, and aligning with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision are essential steps toward building a more dynamic and sustainable economy.
