Amman, April 13 (Petra) – Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman joined the opening session of the Sustainable Cooling Forum, organised by the UN Industrial Development Organisation, with high-level participation from government representatives, international organisations and experts in the cooling and energy sectors.

According to a ministry statement, Suleiman said in a video address that "cooling is no longer a luxury but an essential necessity to protect public health, ensure the continuity of vital services, enhance economic productivity and safeguard food security amid escalating climate challenges." He said that Jordan one of the countries most affected by water scarcity and rising temperatures is experiencing a growing demand for cooling services. This, he said, underscores the need for sustainable solutions that balance economic development with environmental protection.

Suleiman added that Jordan's vision aligns with its international commitments, particularly under the Montreal Protocol, the Kigali Amendment and its Nationally Determined Contributions.

He highlighted ongoing government efforts to improve energy efficiency, transition to low global warming potential cooling technologies, build national capacities and foster innovation in sustainable cooling.

He said that sustainable cooling is key to enhancing energy security, easing pressure on electricity grids, supporting industrial competitiveness and advancing climate adaptation.

He underscored its central role in achieving sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

Addressing challenges faced by developing countries, Suleiman discussed the high investment costs, limited access to advanced technologies and capacity gaps. He called for stronger international cooperation, increased financing and expanded technology transfer.

Suleiman said that Jordan is committed to working with international partners particularly the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation to advance sustainable cooling pathways and deliver effective, safe and climate-friendly solutions that support climate action and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
