Amman, August 4 (Petra) –Ministry of Environment has recently completed distribution of 435 metal bins, each with a capacity of 1100 liters, to support municipalities and institutions in the southern governorates of Ma'an and Aqaba, and Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA).
This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure serving public spaces, parks, tourist and archaeological sites, public gardens, and universities, which would improve public cleanliness and reduce littering practices.
This initiative falls within the framework of implementing the executive program of the Cleanliness and Anti-Littering Strategy (2026-2027), particularly the component focused on improving public cleanliness and strengthening infrastructure nationwide.
The step also reflects the ministry's efforts to support municipalities and enhance the public cleanliness system.
In Ma'an , 385 containers were allocated for several beneficiary municipalities in the governorate, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, and PDTRA.
Meanwhile in Aqaba, the step served 2 municipalities, while 15 metal containers were provided to Zara Ma'in area to support cleanliness efforts at tourist and service sites.
In its statement, the ministry said the distribution process was implemented, in accordance with a "well-planned" field strategy developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Administration and partner organizations.
This strategy aimed to deliver containers to the regions with the greatest need and improve waste collection services in areas with high visitor traffic, which would enhance efficiency of sanitation services and protect environment.
The ministry stated this step is part of its ongoing plan to develop infrastructure of the Kingdom's sanitation sector, in line with the goals of the executive program for the Sanitation Strategy.
On its goals, this initiative aims to reduce the phenomenon of indiscriminate waste disposal and improve level of environmental services.
The ministry urged citizens to use designated waste containers and maintain the cleanliness of public, tourist, and university sites, reflecting "civilized behavior and shared responsibility for protecting the environment." It affirmed its commitment to continuing to expand and enhance infrastructure and improve sanitation countrywide.
