Environment Ministry, Industry Chamber launch national cleanliness initiative

Amman, Feb. 19 (Petra) -- Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman said the launch of the joint national initiative to implement the National Cleanliness and Anti-Indiscriminate Waste Dumping Strategy aligns with the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to foster a culture of cleanliness and curb indiscriminate waste disposal across the Kingdom.

Speaking on Thursday at the initiative’s launch, held in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Suleiman said the program is being implemented within the framework of the national strategy’s executive plan, reinforcing institutional coordination to safeguard the environment and enhance quality of life.

He noted that the partnership with the Chamber represents a practical model of public-private sector collaboration in advancing environmental governance and sustainable development objectives.

According to a Chamber statement, the minister highlighted the industrial sector’s pivotal role in supporting environmental protection efforts, institutionalizing sustainable practices, and contributing to preserving the Kingdom’s cleanliness, thereby strengthening its tourism and investment competitiveness.

Suleiman added that the initiative will support nationwide cleanup campaigns, expand environmental awareness programs, and provide eco-friendly supplies, contributing to the entrenchment of sustainable behaviors and positioning Jordan as a clean and attractive destination for tourism and investment.

He underlined the importance of sustained cross-sectoral coordination to ensure long-term environmental impact and promote a culture of social responsibility toward environmental stewardship.

For his part, Chairperson of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir said the initiative stems from the Crown Prince’s national cleanliness drive and is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, with broad participation from the industrial sector.

Jaghbir said the Chamber-hosted meeting, which brought together representatives of the industrial sector, reflects the sector’s central role in supporting royal initiatives, protecting the environment, and advancing environmental sustainability concepts.

He described the initiative as a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the industrial sector’s contribution to implementing the national cleanliness strategy across the Kingdom, consolidating Jordan’s standing as a tourist destination, promoting sustainable production practices, and improving citizens’ quality of life.

Jaghbir stressed that preserving the Kingdom’s cleanliness is integral to national identity and belonging, noting that local factories will contribute to supporting the initiative’s core pillars.

He added that the industrial sector will support environmental awareness campaigns, provide logistical supplies for cleanup activities, and back the Ministry of Environment’s "Keep Your Bag in Your Car" campaign by securing and distributing thousands of reusable cloth bags to motorists nationwide.
