Environment Ministry Intensifies Nationwide Environmental Campaigns to Promote Public Awareness

Amman, May 1 (Petra)-- The Ministry of Environment has intensified its field campaigns across all governorates of the Kingdom, including the capital Amman, aiming to raise environmental awareness and reinforce positive behaviors that support public cleanliness in tourist sites, parks, and public spaces.

The campaigns are part of the executive program of the National Cleanliness Strategy, which seeks to curb random littering and build a culture of environmental responsibility. They also reflect the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to implement nationwide clean-up and awareness initiatives.

The activities covered a wide range of locations across Jordan, including Mafraq, Balqa, Madaba, Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash, Karak, Tafileh, Petra, and Zarqa, in addition to the Northern Jordan Valley and Dhuleil District. Key sites targeted by the campaigns included public parks, forest areas, tourist attractions, and heritage locations such as the Roman Amphitheater in downtown Amman.

The campaigns were carried out in close coordination with multiple government bodies and partners, including the Ministry of Interior (represented by governors and district administrators), the ministries of Tourism, Youth, Culture, Agriculture, Awqaf, Public Works and Housing, and Education, as well as local municipalities, environmental protection directorates, the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, Civil Defense, Public Security Directorate, and the Tourism Police. Civil society organizations, youth initiatives, volunteers, and local community members also played a key role in the efforts.

As part of the initiative, awareness activities were conducted, including the distribution of eco-friendly reusable bags and vehicle waste bags under the campaign "Keep a Bag in Your Car," aimed at reducing littering and encouraging responsible environmental practices.

The Ministry of Environment emphasized that these efforts are part of a comprehensive national approach to enhance environmental awareness, promote a culture of cleanliness, strengthen community responsibility, and preserve Jordan’s natural, tourist, and archaeological sites contributing to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment across the Kingdom.
